Tamil Nadu local body polls to be held in two phases on 17 and 19 October 
The civic polls for urban and rural local bodies in Tamil Nadu will  be held in two phases on 17 and 19 October, the state election  commission said on Sunday. 
“The last date for filing nomination is October 3. Reviewing of the  documents will take place the following day. The last date for  withdrawal of nominations is on October 6,” said state election  commissioner P. Seetharaman. The nomination documents can be collected  from 26 September.
With the announcement of the dates of local body polls, the model code of conduct comes into force in Tamil Nadu.The first phase of elections will be held in 10 corporations. Over  1.31 lakh posts are to be filled through direct polls for which a total  of 5.8 crore people are eligible to vote. 
While the counting of votes will be held on 21 October, oath taking  ceremony for all directly elected members will take place on 26 October.  
The state election commission has said that the indirect elections to  the posts of mayors, municipality chairman, other local body chiefs and  deputy chiefs will be held on 2 November.
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government  recently reintroduced indirect elections for the post of mayor of  municipal corporations and chairpersons in all local bodies in the  state.
